How your raise is calculated
The general % increase is applied to your current pay, and then you are placed on your corresponding step on the wage grid for your years of licensure.
Most titles advance one step on the grid for each additional year of licensure — about 1.8% between steps.
If the general increase puts you below your grid step, you get an additional % increase to bring you up to your step — so your raise is bigger than the general increase alone.
If the general increase puts you above your grid step, you keep the higher amount — you are not dropped back down to the step.
Either way, your pay never goes down.
